Hobbies

What do you like to do? Now, be honest.  Are you doing the things you like to do? If you are not, you are not alone. We have these great ideas, wonderful plans, but we do not let these thoughts become real. Some of us used our addiction behavior to become our hobby. Well others let depression halt our hobby experiences. The rest of you may have decided that you do not have the time to have a hobby or the motivation. Respectfully, addiction, depression, and lack of motivation can be treated with hobbies. Notice I did not say medication. Sure, medication is needed at times. However, when self is participating in a hobby, or new hobby, self begins to feel good about what self is doing. Self is controlling thoughts of addiction, depression, and becomes more motivated to enjoy the hobby. You are looking forward to the hobby. That hobby may bring you healthy socialization and building positive interpersonal relationships. Hobbies are support, for you! Support does not always have to come from your mental health groups. Support groups are needed, but having a hobby and meeting new people are key in teaching your self how to have fun again. We often want to label our self with being a addict, depressed, and unmotivated. You have the power of thought, to create and try any hobby you would like. Use the power of your mind, be creative, and explore new hobbies. The past is the past, it is what it is, don't let your old behavior be part of the reason your are not in a hobby. Clients tell me often that they are able to let go of their thoughts of addiction with thoughts and actions of their new hobby. Exercise hobbies are a perfect example of how self is able to get out there and have fun while meeting new people. You don't need to have a addiction or depression to exercise. Everyone  needs to exercise and have a hobby. Stay in your health, stay in the moment.
