Beginning to Bloom Part 1

“Transformation doesn’t ask that you stop being you. It demands that you find a way back to the authenticity and strength that’s already inside of you. You only have to bloom.” Thich Nhat Hahn

And bloom, I did! Since July, I have been finding my way back to the authenticity and strength that was buried inside me. I had no idea how far I had strayed from the true me, and now I wonder how or why I let it happen. For one thing, I didn’t realize I was letting it happen. Every time I hid my anxiety from othersthe deeper that authenticity and strength went. Every time I let fear get in the way of what I wanteddeeper it went. Each time I doubted myselfdeeper and deeper it went until I was just a shell. At the time, I didn’t know I was a shell. You see, anxiety allowed me to become a fabulous actress. So much so that I could trick myself into thinking things were fine. During one of the countless appointments I had with my psychologist at the time, I remember comparing myself to a chameleon, a social chameleon. I felt like I didn’t know who I was. I was really good at being what I perceived those around me wanted me to be.
Eventually, the way I felt about myself was a lowered expectation of the true me. I thought I was coping and living a happy life. I had everything I ever (thought) I wanted- a great job, family & friends, a newly bought condo, and most importantly a fiancĂ© that I was madly in love with. Life was on track in my mind.  I had a sense of balance. Looking back, I realize that the “sense of balance” I had, was really just my comfort zone and not true balance. It wasn’t until I was thrown a curveball that I realized those four comforts in my life (job, family/friends, condo, fiancĂ©), let’s call them the “core four”, were also lowered expectations of what I truly wanted and needed in life.
This curveball was pitched to me a little over a month before I was supposed to marry my best friend when the truth of his addiction became known. The details of what unfolded are not important. The important thing is that I take what I have learned from this life-altering experience and share it, so it can help others. Over the next few blogs, I will share how I altered my thinking surrounding each part of the “core four”.
I plan on writing about each part of my core four in the order they occurred during my “bloom”. Stay tuned for Beginning to Bloom: Condo Creations!

Walking and Talking

Good late afternoon from the blizzard in Minneapolis. Walking and talking with a couple of dad's this weekend during mother nature's power. I'm self reflecting on Saturday self reflection day as I peer out my office window and see the copious amounts of snow. I must not forget to mention the 40-50mph gusts that are lurking in the background. Every conversation is different, but walking and talking with dad's is a positive way to vent. I'm a dad to, and one of the reasons I like to walk in the woods, on a path, or in the neighborhood is to breathe, listen, and talk to myself sometimes. Walking and talking is a great way to center back to balance. You can do it on your own too! We all experience negative energy, the trick is to work through it and try to be better for our self first, then our loved ones. Let the negative energy out though exercise. Make it part of your daily routine. Self-Balance-Higher Power-Fun

It's ok to be Jocular once in a while......

What is life about? Well, this writer likes to share with people the concept of self! I like to tell people, (non-clients too) that only you have the power to make yourself happy. If you work on yourself you start to create balance. A higher power can help you with this formula of liking who you are and accepting yourself! Life is your friend. Now it is time to have fun! Can you add some jocular to your life? What in the world does that word mean, Tod? Great question facebook world. We need to go back to the opening of the first sentence in this blog. What is life about? Life is being able to laugh, joke, and above else laugh at yourself! Humor is a great way to work yourself out of negative energy to positive energy. Remember, you work through the negative energy. Avoiding and denial will not help you release the negative energy. We all have some comic ability. Let it out. Life is not meant to be serious 100% of the time, if it were, I would be out of a job! Work on yourself with a positive attitude. This means get out of your shell, and start being active. Find a healthy routine that works for you. This is how you create balance within your day. Control the thought. Don't make things bigger in your head. Exercise will help restore balance in your life. A higher power is something you choose that is greater then you. This higher power guides you. Now it is time to have fun in your life. You are learning to like yourself again, and ultimately love yourself again. Be able to laugh at yourself, because you are not judging who you are or what your past was like anymore. You don't need to take things personally and get out of your health. Create positive humor for yourself. Joke a little it is ok. Stay in your health, stay in the moment.  Self-Balance-Higher Power-Fun

A Higher Power

A Higher Power

Do you have a higher power? I was talking to a father who reached out. Many things are dysfunctional for his family at this time. We continued our talk and I'm praying that things will work out for his family. A higher power in my mind, is something greater then self! I believe faith is connected to my higher power. I share with many people who work our model that a higher power can be what ever you want. This writer subscribes to a higher power every day. I pray, think, reflect and ask my higher power for guidance. Some days are harder then others. This is when I really let God do his thing, if you know what I mean. Positive energy seems to work through me when I am able to utilize my higher power any time I want! When I climb mountains with clients, I feel positive energy flowing through my mind, body, and soul. There is a certain mindfulness that resonates with me. A feeling of confidence as I look at the panoramic views of the mountains. Sometimes I will look over at my client and see the determination on their face which makes me feel thankful that my higher power is giving me the strength to navigate this Rocky Mountain Reflection Walk. I am selfish, because I take my higher power where ever I am in life. The phone call earlier from a distraught father enabled me to reach out for my higher power, and say a prayer. A higher power allows this writer to have faith in myself, others, and ultimately God. I am thankful for a higher power which is part of my life. Let us remember, be friends with life. One thought at a time. Stay in your health, stay in the moment. Self-Balance-Higher Power-Fun
