We meet people for a reason....
Last week I had the pleasure of being a guest speaker at a G.A. (gamblers anonymous) meeting. The meeting was fantastic. I got to see some old timers (people with 20 and 25 years clean) who I think make it a great format for new people coming into the group. As I am walking out of the church, and to my car, two gentlemen from the group stopped me. They expressed their excitement with my talk and wanted to run something by me. The one guy was sharing his story, and the other guy was becoming very nervous. I let the guy finish. I then realized that both of the men were seeing each other. I looked at the nervous one, and quietly told him that everything would be ok. He then began to share his story. I'm standing in the parking lot, talking to two gentlemen, who are venting and trying to figure out their paths. We meet people for a reason I was thinking, but these guys seemed vaguely familiar. I could not place it in my thoughts. I was desperately trying to remember where I may have met these two before? My mind was searching, and yes, my memory is not the greatest, I am reminded every day. But, I never forget a face, or the story that accompanies that face. Then, bam, it came back to me. I think it was 8 years ago, and I was delivering a message on love, and learning to love yourself, accept what you want, and make yourself happy with pure, genuine honesty. Yes, that was it. Christopher and Joseph (ok to share- I actually did a blog on this I think 8 years ago!) were two of my clients in the Saturday group I did for many years. However, neither Christopher and Joseph were gamblers or struggled with any type of gambling addiction if my memory served me correct. The conversation seemed like old times now. I had to ask them, how they knew I would be at this group? Then it came to me, sure, Joseph's father was the group leader for the G.A. and that is how Joseph came to the group I was working on Saturdays mornings. Thanks guys for reaching out!
