What you see is where you are
Good morning gang. What you see is where you are. (Ok to share from client and her family) This was a conversation I had with a teenager who is in a extremely difficult situation right now. She will be 18 very soon. Most 18 year old's are preparing for graduation, and figuring out the next step in their lives. Unfortunately, her situation is just the opposite. I'm not going to get into the specifics (I still want to protect her confidentiality -but give you a glimpse of what she is going through). I usually get call's three times a week. Last week was different. This call was from a different number, still from the women's prison, but it was the medical unit. The correction officer was pleasant, then it was the nurse and she too was very cooperative. Finally, I got to talk to the familiar voice and hear her dilemma. Before she got any words out, I spoke, "what you see is where you are". Then I said it again, and one more time. She calmed down, and began to relax then took her medication. She then went on how her life is unbearable, and not fair. I gave her credit for acknowledging her feelings in a positive manner, and started to go over her daily routine quickly (I did not have a lot of time on these calls) and she blurted out, "what do you mean, what you see is where you are"! I spoke softly, and explained to her that right now, this second, this is where you are, in medical. The goal is to get out of medical, back to your room and to start again on you daily routine. This includes, taking the medication, eating, exercising, and reflecting on what you need to do. Keep your mind flowing, and you will get through this. You will become stronger, your faith will be stronger, and for the first time in your life you will be working on your self! She let the tears out, the phone call was over as the staff had to walk her back to her room. Acceptance of your current situation for anyone is key. Regardless of how you may have got here, you still have the power to make it a positive. What you see is where you are. Stay in your health, stay in the moment. Self-Balance-Higher Power-Fun
